This, in short, is Cosmic School, a project carried out in partnership by Gran Sasso Tech, Gran Sasso Science Institute, Fondazione Openpolis, the National Institute of Nuclear Physics, and the Regional School Office of the Abruzzo Region, which has been selected and supported by the Italian Fondo per la Repubblica Digitale Impresa sociale.
Friday, October 10, marks the beginning of the educational activities: delegations from the 13 high schools involved, from Abruzzo (L’Aquila, Pescara, Teramo, Avezzano, Sulmona, Vasto, Lanciano, Giulianova, and Nereto), as well as from Basilicata (Potenza) and Campania (Pompei), will hear testimonials and presentations from leading figures in Italian scientific research: from cosmic physics to geology, from space technologies to large computing centers.
Cosmic School offers two types of activities: introduction to STEM disciplines and development of practice communities. The project provides training within the 13 participating schools, including the construction of telescopes for the detection of cosmic rays to produce scientific data used by citizen science laboratories for data analysis with civic monitoring.
With Cosmic School, the Gran Sasso Tech Foundation continues its mission to complement its core technological research projects with educational activities, aiming to develop a knowledge supply chain from early education to the highest academic specialization.
